World War 11

In the 1940s  during World War 11 the American forces were stationed in Belmont. Our canteen door used to have CPO written on it (Chief Petty Officer). The Americans tried to dig up Saint Columb's Stone in the garden as they thought there was treasure under it . They dug down 10 metres but still could not find the bottom.

After the war the building was converted into flats and rented out.
