This leaflet gives much more detail concerning the aims of the department.

A maximum of 40 children attend the Unit on a Monday to Thursday basis (maximum of two years) integrating with their own primary classes every Friday.

Approximately 10 children requiring Language Support attend one of the 2 Language Groups held in Woodlands on a Friday.

Approximately 12 children receive Language Support and 5 to 10 Advisory support in their schools from Language Unit staff.

Training is offered to teachers and parents from both staff and speech and language therapists

The Language Unit provides opportunities for intensive teaching and Speech and Language Therapy in a Language rich environment.

All pupils have access to the new Revised Curriculum and are offered differentiated programmes in Numeracy  and Literacy which aim to take account of individual learning needs.

Assessment and monitoring of pupil progress is an ongoing process.

The achievements of pupils are recognised, valued and celebrated enhancing the pupils’ self-esteem. High Priority is given to the Pastoral Care of all pupils.

We participate in all local school competitions and awards e.g. Credit Union Art Competition, ROSPA Safety Competitions and have had many successes over the years.  The children are regularly involved with local arts projects.
