Hampstead Learning Centre ( Key Stage 2 )
Hampstead Learning Centre caters for pupils from 8-11 years of age. Teachers in the Centre also provide weekly Outreach support to local mainstream schools.
In Hampstead pupils are provided with a wide range of integrated educational experiences based on the N.I Curriculum. The curriculum is presented mainly though a termly topic approach in line with new Revised curriculum . Pupils are grouped according to age and as result all classes are of mixed ability. All receive regular homework.
Assessment and monitoring of pupil progress is an ongoing process. Each September pupils are assessed using a variety of tests, strengths and weaknesses are diagnosed and programmes developed to meet the needs of individual pupils. The Individual Education Plan for each child is completed by October, reviewed in February when a new plan is devised and reviewed again in June. The plans are also frequently evaluated and amended as required before the official February and June reviews. Parents are encouraged to contribute to the plans and reviews and are seen as essential to the process.
The achievements of all pupils are recognised, valued and celebrated enhancing the pupils self-esteem. High priority is given to the Pastoral Care of all pupils
The Centre endeavours to promote and encourage links with local mainstream schools. We participate in all local school competitions and awards e.g Credit Union Art Competition, ROSPA Safety Competitions and have had many successes over the years. The children are regularly involved with local arts projects .
